Versions are frozen contracts

Each version of the API is a contract. Once released, a version only receives additive changes:
  • new endpoints;
  • new optional request fields;
  • new fields in responses and webhook payloads;
  • new webhook event types and new values in lists you filter on.
Anything that could break an existing integration (removing or renaming a field, changing a type or a behavior) ships in a new version. Write your integration so that it ignores unknown fields.

Current versions

GET https://shortext.ny-corp.io/api/versions lists the versions and their status. It needs no authentication.
status is active, deprecated or sunset.

Headers

Every response says which version answered:
When a version is scheduled for removal, its responses also carry: Log these headers in your integration: they are your advance notice.

After the sunset date

Once a version is sunset, every request to it gets the HTTP status 410 Gone, whatever the endpoint, with code 1200:

Webhooks and versions

A webhook endpoint receives payloads in the version used to create it (its api_version). Endpoints created with v2.0 keep receiving v2.0 payloads, even after a newer version is released.
